Hillsboro Schools Summit

On Tuesday, November 17, the District held its first Schools Summit, at which a variety of community members were invited to learn more about the District and our vision for 100% of students to be engaged in their learning through real-world experiences, and to share their thoughts on how the broader Hillsboro community can help make that a reality.

Several student groups participated in the event: Glencoe High School’s jazz band played music as guests arrived; South Meadows Middle School art students created masks that became centerpieces for each table; Liberty High School culinary students from the “Iron Chef” class donned their signature white coats and helped plate and serve food; four Century High School art students created a mural that paralleled Superintendent Scott’s speech and depicted his vision; and two students from the Board-Superintendent Student Advisory Committee greeted guests and participated in table discussions.  Food was prepared by the Liberty High School kitchen.

A second Summit was held on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, to continue and expand upon the discussion. See the video below (58:32 mins.).

For November's Summit, the full video of Superintendent Scott’s speech and table group report-outs for the two questions he posed is available here (40:30 mins.).  We also created a fun time-lapse video of the creation of the mural. Scroll down to watch both videos. To view the compiled exit ticket responses from attendees, please click here.
