Summer School

The following programs are offered during the summer to students who meet certain criteria.


Migrant Bilingual Programs Summer School


The Migrant Program will offer Migrant Summer School for elementary and secondary students. This program is only for those who have been identified as active/current migrant families.  There will also be a Dual Language Academy Program for K-6 students enrolled in dual language schools.  English Learner (EL) students may also be eligible to attend elementary or secondary summer school.  Transportation will be provided for all students.

July 5-28, 2016 (Monday through Thursday)

  • Pre-kindergarten and students in grades K-6: classes run 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Witch Hazel Elementary School and Imlay Elementary School
  • Migrant, Dual Language, EL

June 27 - July 28, 2016 (Monday through Thursday)

  • Students in grades 7-12: classes run 5:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. at South Meadows Middle School
  • Migrant, EL

South Meadows Middle School  - Math for Acceleration

Do you have a sixth or seventh-grader who has excelled in grade level math?  Would you like to give them the opportunity to join the Accelerated Math program?  By registering in South Meadows's Summer Math for Acceleration students will have the opportunity to build skills that can help them pass the placement exam.  The 6th to 7th grade program will review the most important standards from your student's current grade and give them a head start on some of the foundations for their next grade.  The 7th to 8th grade program will cover the 8th grade standards included in the Accelerated 7th grade class and required for placement in 8th grade Algebra.  Final course placement depends on exit exam results.  Incoming seventh-grade students will be taught by Ms. Winesburgh.  Eighth-grade students will have Ms. Hill.

Eligibility: HSD Students currently in Grade 6 moving to 7 who are excelling in math

       (or)                            currently in Grade 7 moving to 8 who are excelling in math FULL-Registration Closed

Class Days: Classes meet Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday

Dates: July 12 through August 11, 2016

Class Times: 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Location: South Meadows Middle School, 4960 SE Davis Rd., Hillsboro

Century High School - credit recovery

Eligibility: 9th to 12th grade students who need to make-up (re-take) a semester course they did not pass during the school year.

Course Length: Each course meets 15 times.

Sessions: June 20 through July 8, 2016, Session 1: 8:00-10:30 a.m. Session 2: 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Fee: $100 per 0.50 credit semester course.  Students who are in the free/reduced lunch program will be charged $25.

Attendance: A parent/guardian is required to call (503-844-1800 x5160) to verify all student absences or late arrivals.  If a student accumulates 2 absences or 2 late arrivals, the program administrator will require a meeting with the student and her/his parent/guardian to determine if the student will be allowed to remain in the course.  There is no fee refund if a student is dropped because she/he has accumulated more than 2 absences or 2 late arrivals.

To Register: Have your high school counselor complete and sign their portion of this registration form.  Afterwards, take form to bookkeeper, with payment, to ensure enrollment in a session.  Please take a photo of the registration form for confirmation and record of registration.


Accelerated/advanced classes are available upon request. Students who successfully earn credit for a specific class will earn a grade of “S.”

Glencoe High School - credit recovery

Glencoe’s Summer School is an intensive two-week class for students that are in need of credit recovery. Cost of the program is $100 per session you choose to attend. (AVID and Free or Reduced students will be charged $25.)  ALL work must be completed by 3:30 PM July 1, 2016. Credits will be recorded by the end of September 2016. 

Confirmation of Registration: Due to limited seats, students will be accepted as first come, first served. We will cap each session at 70 students. Parents/students will receive a phone call notifying them of their session time and location.  Registering early with fee guarantees your seat.

Session Dates: June 20-24, 27-30, and July 1, 2016

Hillsboro High School - credit recovery


Summer Credit Recovery Program will take place at Hillsboro High School.  All work will be completed using the PLATO computer system except for the specific Algebra 1 classes.  A Hilhi faculty member will oversee student work and support their progress.  You can expect to earn 0.5 credit (one semester class) for each session you complete.
Due to the limitation of student slots, the Credit Recovery Program will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.  Please fill out the information and return it to the Hilhi bookkeeper, Alice Hart, as soon as possible.

There is a $100, non-refundable fee for each session selected, which must be turned in with this application.  Students/families may set up a payment plan with the bookkeeper.  Students who are in the free/reduced lunch program will be charged $25.  You may request more than one session if multiple classes are needed.  You will pay the session fee for each session you choose.  Attendance for all dates in the session is required.

Confirmation of Registration:  Once your application and fees(s) are received, you are confirmed.
Deadline to submit form is June 10.
Session Dates:  First session: June 20-July 8, Second session: July 11-July 28, 2016.


Liberty High School - credit recovery

Falcon Academy is an intensive two-week class for students who are in need of credit recovery. Cost of the program is $100 per session and is non-refundable. It is limited to 30 students per session and students must have just finished their freshmen, sophomore or junior year at Liberty High School. Availability is tentative based on enrollment.

Confirmation of Registration: Due to the limited number of seats, students will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. If a form is turned in without payment, the student is not guaranteed a spot until payment is received. Parents/students will receive a phone call notifying them of their session time and location.

Deadline to submit form is June 3.

Session Dates: (3 weeks, 15 days): June 20 - 24, June 27 - July 1, July 5 - 8, 2016

Miller Education Center

The 2016 Credit Recovery Program is for non-graduating seniors who have 1.5 or less credits to complete their diploma requirements, and continuing seniors who will be referred to TOPS for the next school year.  This program is offered at no cost and will take place at Miller Education Center West Campus, 440 SE Oak Street. It is limited to 22 students.

Registration Process: Student’s counselor/advisor must fully complete the application/referral form and send a recent transcript and IEP/ESL information, if applicable.  Send registration/transcript directly to Joe Vermeire or Therese Rice.  Registration is due June 17.

Confirmation of Registration: Due to the limited number of seats, students will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Parents/students will receive a phone call notifying them of their session time and location.

Session Dates: June 20-24, June 27-July 1, 2016; 9:00–11:45 a.m.


Hillsboro Online Summer Academy

HOA provides opportunities for students to earn high school credits over the summer. The following are available for the 2016 summer program.

Credit Recovery - opportunity to recover lost credit. These courses begin July 6 with a mandatory orientation.
