Lincoln Street Elementary School celebrated its official groundbreaking Thursday, May 10, 2007, at the school site at NE Lincoln Street and NE Ninth Avenue in Hillsboro. Those gathered for the celebration included many neighbors, community leaders, teachers, District representatives, and school board members Carolyn Ortman, John Peterson, Hugh O'Donnell, Rebecca Lantz, Patti McLeod, and Robb Nerdin.
Superintendent Jeremy Lyon and Board Chair Carolyn Ortman spoke to the crowd and thanked the Hillsboro community for its continued support of the growing school district.
Hillsboro Mayor Tom Hughes and Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce President Deanna Palm were among the speakers. Toni Crummett, planning principal for the new school, spoke about the school as well.
Music for the event was provided by David Hill Elementary School students who played Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" on the recorder.
The new school, scheduled to open in the fall of 2008, is funded through a bond approved by voters in last fall's election.
