Volunteer Information and Procedures

Parent and community involvement is abundant within schools across the District. Through strong parent organizations, SMART (Start Making a Reader Today) volunteers, E3 mentors, and thousands of individuals who donate their time in our schools, students benefit from a diverse range of opportunities these generous volunteers provide.

Whether receiving assistance with reading, the opportunity to learn a new skill, or benefiting from school gardens, enhanced playgrounds, and computer labs, students’ experiences during their K-12 education in Hillsboro are greatly enhanced through these contributions. Contact individual schools for current volunteer opportunities.

Volunteer Procedures
Signing up to become a volunteer for the Hillsboro School District is easy—and once you’re "cleared," you’re good for two years!

There are two basic steps to becoming a volunteer through our new online system:

  • Read the District’s Volunteer Handbook (a link to the handbook can be found in the application)
  • Complete the Volunteer Application Form & Criminal History Verification Information.

After your volunteer application has been approved, contact your school for volunteer assignments, sign in and out in the main office, and wear your volunteer badge.

  Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are critical to so many aspects of the educational experience.  From helping out in the classroom, to providing career planning assistance, to running after-school clubs and so on, volunteers are welcome and appreciated at all of our schools.  And whether you’re interested in a one-time, one-hour project or an ongoing opportunity, we can find something for you!

Prior to volunteering, we ask that you complete the volunteer application process.  Once you’ve been cleared, you may contact schools directly to sign up for a project.  Below are just some of the opportunities currently available; this list will be updated on a weekly basis.
