After graduating from Southern Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree in special education, Debbie Ashley, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, began her teaching career as a middle school special education teacher in Plano, Texas. She later moved to Wisconsin, where she designed and implemented a special education program for primary students with behavior disorders at a K-12 school located on a Chippewa Reservation. Debbie later re-located to Eugene, Oregon, where she obtained her Master’s degree in special education and completed her administrative licensure program. After finishing her program, she taught elementary special education in Cottage Grove for several years, and then was hired into the position of Special Programs Director, where she was instrumental in designing and implementing inclusionary system services to student with disabilities. She served in that position for six years, and then was hired into a position as an elementary principal. In 2000, Debbie was hired by the Eugene School District as elementary principal of co-located schools, one of which was a Spanish Immersion School and the other, a Title I school.
After three years in the principal position, Debbie was hired to serve as a human resources administrator with the district. Debbie moved to Hillsboro, Oregon, in 2006, when she accepted the position of Director of Classified Personnel for the district. Debbie was promoted to her current position as Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources in November, 2012.
After graduating from City University of New York with a bachelor’s degree in Cultural Anthropology, Director Saideh Haghighi traveled to Ecuador, South America, as part of an archeological team to excavate ruins dating back to the Valdivia culture. Once obtaining her master’s degree in ESOL & bilingual education, her educational career began by teaching fifth grade in a bilingual school. She later became the K-12 English as a Foreign Language Director at an all-boys elementary school in Guayaquil, Ecuador. After living abroad for 10 years, in 2001, Saideh’s travels brought her to the Hillsboro School District where she has served as a bilingual assistant, ESL teacher and ESL coordinator and case manager at the high school level.
Prior to her current role, Saideh took the position of Teacher on Special Assignment and later Director for the Office of Hispanic Outreach. Saideh is bilingual in English and Spanish and is currently working on her doctorate in educational leadership for social justice.
Director Kona Lew-Williams began her teaching career at the elementary level in Meridian, Idaho, in 1996 after graduating from Northwest Nazarene University with a bachelor’s degree in English and elementary education. She then spent two years in Japan where she taught English Communication at the high school level before returning to Idaho in the summer of 1998. After six years of teaching third and fifth grade, she moved to Oregon and taught at Imlay Elementary School.
In 2008, Kona completed her Master’s of Education in administrative leadership, and she was appointed as Imlay’s Principal then took over as Principal of Eastwood in 2012. At Eastwood, she has expanded the school’s Dual Language program, increased academic subgroup growth on the State Report Card by using a push-in model for English Language Development, and implemented a collaborative problem-solving model to support student behavior.
Serving as Director of Human Resources, Kona will use her educational experience to facilitate recruiting, hiring and supporting Hillsboro School District licensed staff.
