  Partnerships

Aside from the partnerships described above with organizations like the Hillsboro Schools Foundation and Hillsboro Parks & Recreation, the Hillsboro School District also enjoys strong relationships with other local governmental, business, and non-profit organizations.

Local Government: City of Hillsboro, Washington County, Hillsboro Police Department, Hillsboro Fire Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Washington County Commission on Children & Families.

Chamber: The Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce has facilitated business involvement in our schools, recognizes educators with the annual Crystal Apple Awards Program, and manages our School-to-Work program, which arranges career-related learning experiences for our high school students.

Businesses: Companies like Intel and Nike have employee matching grant programs where $10 for every hour of an employee’s volunteered time (subject to a 20-hour minimum) goes directly to the organization they’ve volunteered for.  These companies have also provided large stand-alone grants and other in-kind donations to our District and schools.  Other corporate partners are Synopsys, which supports our annual District Science Fair and provides grants to schools, Tuality Healthcare, TriQuint, and many others.

Non-Profit Organizations: Churches and fraternal organizations provide consistent support to our students and schools through weekend food backpack programs, grounds maintenance projects, shelter and clothing support, provision of scholarships, and so on. Other organizations, such as The Right Brain Initiative, work with our schools to provide enrichment opportunities—in this case, in the arts—to our students by leveraging partnerships, grant dollars and donations to achieve maximum impact.

  Other Partners

Hillsboro Family Resource Center.  The Hillsboro Family Resource Center (HFRC), located on the Miller Education Center campus at 451 SE Walnut Street, was established in October 2002 as a collaborative effort between Youth Contact, the Hillsboro School District, and the Washington County Commission on Children and Families.  HFRC provides local families access to emergency food boxes, clothing, parenting classes, and other programs and services, most of which are provided free of charge.

Camp Fire Columbia
Camp Fire Columbia offers a structured afterschool program at Free Orchards Elementary School that keeps kids safe, learning, and exploring fresh opportunities in the out-of-school time hours. Camp Fire provides academic support and enrichment to youth each week. Camp Fire also leverages community resources through a “Community School” model to offer wraparound services to the student and their family, including educational, health, and social services.

  Donations, Partnerships & Volunteer Opportunities

The Hillsboro School District is fortunate to have the support of parents, community members, businesses and other organizations that bring additional opportunities and resources to our students through donations, partnerships, and volunteerism.  On this page, we’d like to highlight current projects and requests, and provide additional information on how you can get involved.

  Donations

District or School Donations.  Monetary and in-kind donations are always welcome at both the District and school level.  The Hillsboro School District is tax exempt as a “governmental unit,” as defined in Sections 170(b)(1)(A)(v) and 170(c)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986; our taxpayer identification number is 93-6001037.  Donations to the District are tax deductible in most situations.  If you are unsure about your ability to write off donations to the District or one of our schools, please consult your tax advisor.

Below is a list of current donation requests from our schools; please contact the school directly if you would like more information or would like to donate.  This list will be updated on a weekly basis.

Hillsboro Schools Foundation Donations.  The Hillsboro Schools Foundation (HSF) is a private non-profit organization whose mission is to raise private funds to enhance public education.  Through three major events each year—the Annual Gala & Auction Event, Tony’s Tourney Golf Tournament, and Annual Phone-A-Thon—HSF raises money, which it then distributes in the form of innovative education grants and direct donations to school clubs and teams in the Hillsboro School District.  If you would like to make a donation in support of innovative education grants or if you need for your donation to go to an organization that is tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, please contact the Hillsboro Schools Foundation.

Hillsboro Parks & Recreation Donations.  In partnership with the Hillsboro School District, the Hillsboro Schools Foundation, and the Washington County Commission on Children and Families, Hillsboro Parks & Recreation offers after-school opportunities throughout the District that serve more than 4,000 Hillsboro children.  These include: After-School Homework Help Clubs at four elementary and two middle schools, funded by the Hillsboro Schools Foundation; BLAST (Bringing Leadership, Arts and Sports Together) after-school youth enrichment programs serving 17 elementary schools; The Zone after-school youth enrichment program at all four middle schools; and After-School Intramural Sports at all four middle schools.  Like the Hillsboro School District, Parks & Rec is tax exempt as a “governmental unit.”  If you would like to make a donation to support after-school enrichment programs, please contact Hillsboro Parks & Recreation.

Hillsboro Community Foundation Donations
.  The Hillsboro Community Foundation is also a private non-profit organization and tax exempt as a 501(c)(3).  They promote and facilitate charitable giving in support of projects and programs that enhance the quality of life in Hillsboro.  Typically, their focus is on larger community projects, such as the fundraising effort for the renovation of the Glenn & Viola Walters Cultural Arts Center, but they will also work with our District on things such as managing scholarship funds and grants, and handling some pass-through donations.  For more information on the Hillsboro Community Foundation, please visit their website.

  Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are critical to so many aspects of the educational experience.  From helping out in the classroom, to providing career planning assistance, to running after-school clubs and so on, volunteers are welcome and appreciated at all of our schools.  And whether you’re interested in a one-time, one-hour project or an ongoing opportunity, we can find something for you!

Prior to volunteering, we ask that you complete the volunteer application process.  Once you’ve been cleared, you may contact schools directly to sign up for a project.  Below are just some of the opportunities currently available; this list will be updated on a weekly basis.
