On-Time Graduation Rates in Hillsboro Outpace State

Last Updated Feb 2012

The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) recently released 4-year cohort graduation rate data for all schools and districts in the state for the 2010-11 school year.  Once again, the number of students in Hillsboro earning their high school diploma on time far exceeded the statewide average of 67.2%.

The dropout rate for each of our schools, defined as the number of students who dropout of grades 9 through 12 between July 1, 2010, and June 30, 2011, is also better than the statewide average of 3.3%.  See below:

  • Century High School - 84.5% graduation rate; 0.5% dropout rate.
  • Glencoe High School - 80.6% graduation rate; 1.4% dropout rate.
  • Hillsboro High School (Hilhi) - 79.0% graduation rate; 1.6% dropout rate.
  • Liberty High School - 82.7% graduation rate; 0.3% dropout rate.

It may seem a little odd that there isn't more correlation between the graduation rate and the dropout rate.  That's due to the cohort rate not taking into account students who are continuing their enrollment in some form, seeking a modified diploma, GED, or participating in other programs.  For more information about how the new cohort graduation rate is calculated, please see our publication Understanding Graduation Rates (also available under District/About Us).
