The segregation model of placing special education students in specialized programs and classrooms is evolving to a more inclusive approach, where diverse learners attend classes with their regular education peers to enable access to the same core curriculum. One of the reasons for accelerating this approach is the transition to standards-based individualized education plans aligned to the Common Core State Standards.

Miller Education Center’s middle and high school campus (formerly David Hill Elementary School) is home to Hillsboro’s fourth community garden. The 49-plot garden was officially dedicated on Wednesday, August 28, 2013, and, since then, has literally and figuratively flourished.
