Intel /HSF Awards $60,000 to Hillsboro schools for three Science, Math and Technology Grants

Intel and the Hillsboro Schools Foundation recently announced the recipients of the 2010 Science, Math and Technology Grants, which provide a total of $60,000 in funds for three school-based grants. Following are details fo the three grants awarded to Glencoe High School for portable technology tools to conduct scientific research; Hilhi and South Meadows Middle school for interactive classroom technology to enhance the science curriculum; and Lincoln Elementary School for a creative technologies to build and sustain an outdoor garden.

Glencoe High School: Roving Researchers will improve scientific literacy through inquiry with portable technology tools for students to collect, analyze and present data. Student research will be enhanced as they are equipped with Vernier Probes, LabQuests, eInstruction response system, and an EXILIM EX-F1 slow motion camera.

 


Hilhi/South Meadows: Rigorous and Relevant Science
will provide an engaging and challenging science experience for students at South Meadows Middle school and Hillsboro High School as part of the International Baccaulareate Middle Years Programme. This project funds the introduction of technology into various aspects of the science curriculum through the use of classroom response tools, Vernier Probes and LabQuests, as well as a variety of interactive technology.


Lincoln Street Elementary: GLOW
(Grow Lab and Outdoor Weather) provides the opportunity for Lincoln Street Elementary students to engage in year-round, hands-on activities using elements of science and advanced technology.  The Glow project will bring environmental science to life through creative technologies such as the WeatherBug© weather station and Grow Lab gardening equipment. Students will use interactive monitoring technology as well as portable indoor growing equipment and outdoor planter boxes. With portable greenhouse equipment, students will grow and study indoor and outdoor plants, manipulate and monitor factors of growth, investigate simple propagation techniques and care for the outdoor garden.
