New Groner Principal Selected

Last Updated Jan 2011

Christie Petersen, current Title I coordinator for the District, has been selected as the new principal of Groner Elementary School. The District recently announced that Bruce Bourget , who currently holds the position, will assume the leadership of Indian Hills Elementary School replacing Steve Callaway who will take over from Tobias' retiring principal Tom Noesen.

Christie has been an educator for over 20 years, with her early years spent as an elementary teacher in regular education, special education and ESL classrooms.  She came to Hillsboro in 2000 as a Title I teacher at Minter Bridge Elementary, then became a TOSA and Title X Homeless Education liaison, and finally assumed her current position of Title I coordinator in 2008.  She has also been an adjunct professor at the University of Portland since 2003.

In her new role, Christie will perform both the role of the principal as well as some federal programs duties. This will allow the district to retain her Title expertise as well as allow her salary to be split between General Fund and federal grant dollars.  Christie’s other current responsibilities will be divided among existing staff members; her position at the Central Office will not be replaced.
