Last Updated Oct 2010

The Hillsboro School District announced today it has selected Dr. William (Bill) Rhoades as its new assistant superintendent in the Office for School Performance. Currently serving as chief academic officer in the Bend-LaPine School District, Dr. Rhoades will oversee curriculum and instruction for all of Hillsboro’s schools in his new capacity.

"Dr. Rhoades is well-respected in the education field,” notes superintendent Mike Scott.  “He has a very strong background in curriculum and instruction and a proven track record of systematically improving achievement for all students.”

“I am honored to be selected to serve Hillsboro schools and to have the opportunity to be part of such a strong leadership team,” Dr. Rhoades explains.  “I look forward to working with district and school teams in ensuring a world-class education for each and every student in Hillsboro.  I continue to be impressed with the focus on learning that drives continuous improvement in this district and I am excited to be involved in its ongoing journey toward excellence.”

"Dr. Rhoades began his career as a high school biology teacher in Elmira, Oregon, and continued as a science teacher in various Oregon districts until 1994 when he was named assistant principal of Milwaukie High School in Milwaukie, Oregon.  He moved to Woodburn High school in 1997 as its assistant principal,  then worked in Woodburn’s central office as curriculum director in 1998.  In 2002 he became principal of Valor Middle School in Woodburn, and remained there until 2007 when he assumed his current position in Bend.  He earned his doctorate in education in 2009 with a dissertation of “Assessing Early Literacy Instruction in Spanish.”
