The student information system (SIS) is the biggest and most important data repository in the Hillsboro School District. It houses information about each of our students, their parents/guardians, the courses they're taking and have taken, and much more.
Hillsboro rolled out the current SIS—Synergy—to schools in 2013-14. All schools are now using Synergy to manage student information. Middle and high schools began using the system's grade book feature in 2013-14, and elementary schools began using the grade book feature in 2014-15.
One of the unique features of Synergy is the way it handles student records. In Synergy, the records are parent-centric, with the parent as the hub and students as the spokes. This allows for the creation and maintenance of just one parent record, leading to greater consistency and accuracy of information as well as the linking together of siblings.
Parents and students (parents K-12, students in grades 3 and higher) will receive information on how to activate their own login to Synergy—using either ParentVUE or StudentVUE—to see their information. This information will be distributed during fall conferences at the elementary level and during open houses at secondary schools. For middle and high school students, the information accessible will include all course information, interim and final grades. Use of the system for posting homework assignments and messages to students and parents will vary by school and by teacher. Teachers are not required to use the Classroom Website area within Synergy to post homework assignments, so some may still be using external websites for that purpose. Please check with teachers to learn where and how students can access homework information.
