Andy Loeb, 4th grade teacher at Indian Hills Elementary School, passed away on Friday, March 8, due to complications from colon cancer. Prior to his time at Indian Hills, Andy taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades at Witch Hazel Elementary School. A memorial service will be held in the Hilhi Auditorium on Saturday, March 23, at 1:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of this beloved teacher. A scholarship fund in Andy's name is being established for students of Indian Hills and Witch Hazel. More information about making donations to that fund will be posted as soon as it is available.
Kendall D. King, 74, a resident of the Forest Grove community, died at his home in Forest Grove. He had served as a Teacher of Geography at the J.B. Thomas Junior High school for the Hillsboro School District from 1968 to 1997, when he retired. The family suggests that remembrances may be contributions to the American Cancer Society, 330 S.W. There will be a celebration of life for Trevor on Tuesday, February 5, at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hillsboro (2194 SE Minter Bridge Road).
A scholarship fund has been established in his name at Chase bank under the name "Trevor Peterson Memorial Scholarship." Its intention is to help children with special needs or their siblings continue their education. The family respectfully requests donations to this fund in lieu of flowers.
Travis Robert Royland, 20, a student in our Transition Services program, died Tuesday morning, January 8, 2013 at Tuality Community Hospital in Hillsboro.
Memorial Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2012 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Forest Grove Stake Center, 3661 Brooke Street in Forest Grove.
A private burial service will be held at Arcade Cemetery in North Plains, OR.
We have received some sad news. Brenda Lakie, health room assistant at Century High School, passed away yesterday afternoon. Brenda had been suffering from cancer and has been on medical leave. Brenda has been an employee of the Hillsboro School District since 1991. She started as a substitute educational assistant at Reedville. She was also a Library assistant at Reedville, until she accepted a position at Evergreen Middle School (EMS) as an educational assistant in 1993. She remained at EMS until 1999. Brenda then accepted a position at Century High School in 2000 as the Health Room Assistant. Brenda Lakie was a wonderful person who touched many staff and students lives throughout the district; our sincere condolences go out to her family and friends. Our district Flight Team is providing grief support to staff at Century High School today, November 20. Thank you for your support during this difficult time.
Friday, November 16, 2012--Pat Wiegand, Retired Elementary School Counselor
This past weekend, Pat Wiegand passed away peacefully with her family at her side. For those of you who did not know Pat, she was a beloved colleague to those of us from McKinney and our staff that helped open Free Ochards. Her dedicated work as a school counselor, supporting both students and staff, was a great source of inspiration and comfort to many. She will be deeply missed. Funeral arrangements have been made for Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 6:00 pm at St. Cecelia's Church in Beaverton (12250 SW 5th St., Beaverton 97005).

The memorial for Sara Virginia Lasky will take place on Saturday, October 20, at 2:00 p.m. at First Unitarian Church (1034 SW 13th Avenue, Portland 97205). Sara's life celebration will be in the spring; the date for that event and a request for planning assistance will be announced.
Friday, October 12, 2012--Dick Fruhwirth long-time Hillsboro School District Teacher
Dick Fruhwirth, a long-time teacher with Hillsboro School District passed away earlier this week after battling cancer for several years.
Before retiring from the district, Dick served the students of Hillsboro in the 1970’s at Poynter Middle School, the 1980’s at J.B. Thomas, and the 1990’s at Glencoe High School.

Thursday, October 11, 2012--Glencoe Senior Sean Rodriguez
On Thursday, October 4, 2012, Glencoe Senior Sean Rodriguez passed away after battling a terminal illness. His memorial service will be held at Hillsboro First Congregational Church (494 E. Main Street, Hillsboro, 97123; 503-648-4341) at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 16. There will be a viewing before the service starting at 12:30 p.m. and a reception afterward.

Sara Lasky, a teacher at Brown Middle School, passed away peacefully this afternoon. She had been suffering from brain cancer and went on medical leave last year. Sara has been an employee of the Hillsboro School District since August 2004. She taught 5th and 6th grades at Brookwood until 2008, then transferred to Brown Middle School where she taught Science and Health. She was a wonderful teacher who touched many people throughout the District and our sincere condolences go out to her students, friends, and family. The District's Flight Team will be providing grief support to students and staff at Brown Middle School and Century High School on Monday, October 15.
Tuesday, July 10, 2012--Jeff Anderson, Minter Bridge Custodian
On Sunday, July 8, 2012, long-time Minter Bridge custodian Jeff Anderson passed away. Jeff had worked for the District since 1990, spending the first seven years of his career at Brown Middle School, then moving to Minter Bridge in 1997. The school will open on Wednesday, July 11, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. so people can gather to talk and help put something together for Jeff's family. Jeff's funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 13, at Cooper Mountain Evangelical Cemetery near Miller Hill and Gassner Roads in Aloha. A wake will follow at his daughter's church
