The Brief History
The sport of lacrosse was brought to Oregon high schools in 1994 it was a joint effort between coaches Mark Flood of West Linn High School and Bill Rexford of Glencoe High School. Rexford, a east coast native and a former standout defensemen at Dartmouth College, didn’t like the lack of knowledge Oregonians held when it came to lacrosse so he contacted Mark Flood a New York Native and former college lacrosse player, and a plan was set into motion to jump start the sport of lacrosse in the state of Oregon. The plan was a success and in 1994 the first season commenced between the West Linn Lions and the Glencoe Crimson Tide, it was a poor display of the game to say the least but none the less the seed was planted and began to flourish, and the second year the league came back but now with five teams, now including the Lakeridge Pacers, the Oregon Episcopal School (OES) Aardvarks, and the Hood River Eagles. Now that the league had expanded it allowed more competition and allowed standings and other games to come into play in determining who was the best team in the state but there was no need because the Crimson Tide went 15-0 in 1995 and was declared the states first State Champion. The streak continued into the next year where they went 15-0 in 1996 to be the two time State champions. Then after losing 9 of 10 starters in 1997 the continued to have success going 12-2 in the regular season, as a decision by all the coaches the Glencoe hosted the first Oregon High School Lacrosse State Playoffs where the team lost in the first round to eventual champion Lakeridge. Since then the team has struggled making the playoffs only 4 times since (2001-2005) and never getting past the quarter finals. But the team like every year has high hopes for this year, so all we can do is sit back and watch history unfold.
