I am humbled and grateful for the warm greeting from the Hilhi community and fellow Spartans. My transition to this position throughout the summer and fall provided me with an amazing opportunity to learn about the Hilhi community. The school, the students, the families, and school supporters have shown me the true meaning of Spartan Pride and I embrace it fully. I look forward to being an active part of such an outstanding school and community.
In my short time at Hihi, I've been asked about my background and my vision for our school. It is my intention to build off of the amazing improvements that have gone on at HHS over the past few years. We need to celebrate our accomplishments and recognize the efforts of our students, teachers, families, and community members. In turn, we need to focus our efforts on continuous improvements for the benefit of all students at Hilhi.
As we move forward and create a shared vision for our future, I want to take a moment to share some resources that help guide my practice as an educational leader. As a principal, one of the organizations that I continually rely on for professional learning, guidance, and growth is the Coalition of Essential Schools (CES). CES is an organization founded by the late Ted Sizer, a lifelong educator and leader, and is based on ten common principles. One of the principles - Goals Apply to All Students - resonates with me and drives my passion for ensuring the success of all students at Hilhi. The CES Principle states that -
GOALS APPLY TO ALL STUDENTS
The school's goals should apply to all students, while the means to these goals will vary as those students themselves vary. School practice should be tailor-made to meet the needs of every group or class of students.
We, as administrators, faculty, and staff at Hilhi, will continue the outstanding efforts that have paved the way for Hilhi's success. While doing so, we will make sure that we hold extremely high expectations for all members of our learning organization and that we hold true to the Hilhi Academic Vision of ensuring success for all students.
