Hillsboro School District Announcement Regarding Swine Flu

Last Updated Jul 2010

As the health and safety of our students is of primary importance, the Hillsboro School District adheres to the recommendations provided by the Washington County Health and Human Services Department in response to all public health concerns.

To protect the health and safety of our community, the Public Health Division of Washington County Department of Health and Human Services is closely watching the situation regarding the new Swine Flu pandemic that has infected people in several states.

There are several credible sources of information that are updated regularly for the public to stay informed.

The State of Oregon's Department of Human Services has posted a page about Swine Flu, at this Web site: http://www.flu.oregon.gov/.

If you have questions beyond what is on the web sites, the State of Oregon has opened a Flu Hot Line at
1-800-978-3040. It is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Remember, the best way to protect yourself and others is by taking these normal precautions:

  1. cover your cough and
  2. wash your hands often

If you are sick with any flu like symptoms (including fever, lethargy, lack of appetite, coughing, runny nose, sore throat, and possibly nausea, vomiting and diarrhea) stay home from work, school and social events where you could spread your illness.

If you have traveled to areas with confirmed cases of H1N1 recently,

  • Closely monitor your health for 7 days
  • If you become ill with fever and other symptoms of swine flu like cough and sore throat and possibly vomiting and diarrhea during this period, call your doctor or clinic for an appointment right away. Your doctor may test you for influenza and decide whether influenza antiviral treatment is indicated.
