About the Project

  • Fiber network map

As part of the 2017 Hillsboro School District Bond, the Hillsboro School District is partnering with the City of Hillsboro to build a fiber optic network to connect all schools and facilities together. This network will provide fast, reliable Internet access at all sites as well the infrastructure for security systems, telephone services and other essential communications systems for the district.

Design of the project started in spring 2018. Once the City signed the intergovernmental agreement with the District on Feb. 19, 2019, contractors moved forward with the construction of the district's connections to the City's network backbone; the first phase began in March 2019.

All existing schools and buildings are expected to be fully connected by the end of May 2020. Strands to future school sites in North Plains and South Hillsboro will be in place and activated once the schools are built in 2021 and 2022, respectively.

By partnering with the City of Hillsboro and its Fiber to the Premise project, we are both able to cooperatively share the planning and costs of such a major endeavor. This investment in infrastructure will provide the district and City with self-sufficient internet access for decades to come.

We will be keeping staff and the public updated of the scheduled work in the "Timeline" and the "Look Ahead" sections linked on this page. The Timeline section will detail the larger scope and timing of the project, while the Look Ahead will show where work is expected to be happening for the week.
