Announcements

  • Greater Than Partnership

    6/3/20

Dear Lincoln Street Families and Staff,

I am thrilled to announce an amazing opportunity that has been presented to our school, beginning next year. Lincoln Street has been selected as a partner school by the Greater Than organization - a Portland-based nonprofit committed to reducing poverty-related barriers in education.

Each of our students and families will benefit from this “cradle-to-career” partnership, which supports children from birth through their post-secondary or career pathway employment. Most importantly, Greater Than leverages the supportive relationships they have in the community, with parents, educators, and other non-profits, to make the biggest impact model.

Elements of that impact model are as follows:

    1. Parent Leadership. Programming and support offerings are informed by parents and the community through authentic engagement. Support of parent advocacy efforts, creating opportunities and building connection to student’s school and creating opportunities for training and professional development for parents. Parents are involved in a continuous feedback loop.
    2. Racial Equity. Greater Than is deeply committed to addressing all forms of unjust bias. As an education nonprofit, they are keenly aware that the educational achievement gap is highly racialized and that racism profoundly affects the students and families they serve throughout their lives.  In order to achieve their mission of students thriving in school, college and career, a primary emphasis must be placed on racial equity.
    3. Program Development and Partnerships. Coordinating additional/supplemental academic intervention and family support efforts to provide equitable access to educational courses and attainment, early childhood education, and family stability.
    4. Post-Secondary Success. Coordinating efforts to ensure students graduate from high school academically, financially, and emotionally prepared for college, and have access to mentoring and case management supports to help them navigate their post-secondary plans.
    5. Impact and Evaluation. Ensuring students are engaged, with a strategic focus on transitions between elementary to middle and middle to high school. Using Early Warning Indicators to monitor student performance to inform program interventions as well as tracking student engagement indicators.

Even amidst the current COVID-19 reality, HSD and Greater Than are looking forward to getting started on planning conversations with district and community leaders, and with Lincoln Street parents, students, teachers and staff! Please stay tuned, as we are talking right now about the best ways to begin these conversations.

    Thank you,

    Carmen Brodniak

    Atentamente,

    Carmen Brodniak

    Directora
