I am from Lebanon, Oregon. I have an M.S. in Music Ed. K-12; an M.S. in Elementary Ed. K-9; and an Associate in Dance from Western Oregon State College. My husband Walter is also a music teacher at The International School of Beaverton. I teach K – 6 general music as well as the 6th grade beginning band. I have 2 children, Annabeth and Kellan, and 3 cats, Sami, Elvis and Purrcilla. My hobbies include sewing, quilting, crafts, scrap-booking, gardening, beading, biking traveling and going to broadway shows and concerts. I have seen every major (and a lot of minor) performances in Las Vegas and have been a member of the OBT and Broadway Portland for the past 15 years. I have traveled to Europe, Hawaii (7 times) and many places around the US mainland. We focus a lot on music theory in class because I strongly believe that a good foundation in music reading strengthens every academic area... Math, reading, science, social studies, etc. Other areas of emphasis are listening and learning to recognize different styles of music, learning to play recorders, movement, choreography, music history, instrument technique and much more. The more kids learn about and understand music the more they can enjoy it for the rest of their lives. I LOVE what I do!! Can't imagine doing anything else!
