  • Photos 1-4: the third and final beam is installed in the gym. Scaffolding will start to be removed from the gym as well as the cafeteria beneath as work is completed. Expected completion is around spring break, after which the temporary gym will be removed and the existing gym can be used again.

  • The first of three beams has been installed and painted in the gym. Crew members are now securing the beam in its permanent location. The video below shows how the beam was lifted by crane to a cut-out window and winched through to its location.

  • Photos 1-3: the temporary gym is open! The happy noise of active children can be heard outside the gym. Inside, PE class involves a bit of running on the synthetic turf and, yes, throwing of some rubber chickens. It took a team of adults in service of the children—from project managers to County and TV Fire staff to contractors—to provide a safe, warm and dry space for PE in just a few months, especially with the winter months approaching, while the school gym is undergoing repairs.
