Under Oregon's Public Records Law, "every person" has a right to inspect any nonexempt public record of a public body in Oregon, including school districts. A "public record" is broadly defined to include "any writing that contains information relating to the conduct of the public's business...that is prepared, owned, used or retained by a public body regardless of physical form or characteristics." For additional information about Oregon Public Records Law, please visit the Oregon Department of Justice website.

Requests for public records in the custody of the Hillsboro School District must be submitted in writing:

The District will complete its response as soon as practicable and without unreasonable delay, and may charge a fee reasonably calculated to reimburse actual costs incurred. The costs associated may include locating, photocopying, reviewing, redacting, legal advice, and mailing the documents. Cost estimates will be provided to the requester in advance so the requester can determine whether or not they would like the collection of records to proceed. If a cost will be assessed for the collection of records, the requester may be asked to pay a portion of the fee in advance, with the remainder being due prior to the delivery of records.
