    Dear Liberty Community,

Another week and another significant announcement from ODE closing brick and mortar schooling for the rest of the year. This is tough news for all of us, it is also the right thing to do for the health of our community. The news is especially hard for the Senior Class of 2020. We know that ODE has stated that any senior on track to graduate and passing all classes will be able to graduate. As a school district, we are working to determine the exact standing of every senior and will be communicating out to students and families as information becomes established. Seniors should continue to take part in learning. This is especially true for seniors in dual credit courses where grade requirements are also determined by the university or college partner and for AP classes with upcoming exams.

Seniors, we will begin planning to determine the best way to celebrate your achievements and accomplishments. I am proud of you all and my heart hurts for the loss of the end of your senior year.

Teachers and staff are hard at work planning and preparing for distance learning. We are a brick and mortar school working to transition to online school practices, this is a huge undertaking and change of practice for our staff and students. As a school, we are focusing first on supporting the health and welfare of each student. We then can look to begin to provide the best online learning experiences we can under the situation. We know that online learning works well for some students and is harder for some students. We are focusing on core standards for classes.

The four comprehensive high schools in Hillsboro have developed a schedule that provides an outline for students and teachers to follow if their personal schedule allows. We recognize not all students will be able to follow the schedule. If a teacher designs a live learning activity during that time the lesson will be recorded and posted for students to access at a later time. The schedule is included lower in this bulletin.

Students, I have reviewed the concepts of Liberty’s motto, “OUR School! OUR Team!” over the last few weeks. “O” stands for Opportunity, “U” stands for Unity and the “R” stands for Responsibility. If you have seen examples of those in the Liberty community, please email and tell me what you have seen. I would love to hear the stories and celebrate those.

Thank you all for taking care of each other. The Liberty Community is a strong one!

    Our School! Our Team!

    Liberty Proud,

    Greg Timmons
