Equity Advisory Committee
Are you interested in addressing racial disparities and advancing equitable outcomes in HSD? In accordance with Oregon Senate Bill 732, HSD is forming an Equity Advisory Committee (EAC) composed of parents, caregivers, staff, students, and community members to make recommendations to the Superintendent and School Board related to equity and corresponding practices. Intentional effort will be placed on ensuring that the diversity of identities and experiences in our community is reflected.
The EAC will be facilitated by Francesca Sinapi, HSD’s equity, access, and engagement officer, and others within the school district.

¿Está interesado en abordar las disparidades raciales y promover resultados equitativos en HSD? De acuerdo con el Proyecto de Ley 732 del Senado de Oregón, HSD está formando un Comité Asesor de Equidad (EAC, por sus siglas en inglés) compuesto por padres, proveedores de cuidado, miembros del personal, estudiantes y miembros de la comunidad para hacer recomendaciones al superintendente y a la Mesa Directiva relacionadas con la equidad y sus prácticas correspondientes. Public Comment Options for Regular Session Board Meetings
Public comment at Board meetings is governed by Board Policy BDDH. A version of the Intent to Speak Card can be found in the associated administrative regulation: BDDH-AR.
In-Person Comments: Patrons must complete an Intent to Speak form by 7 p.m. on the day of the meeting (forms are provided in the meeting room). Speakers are asked to provide their name, contact information, the topic(s) they wish to address, and whether or not they are speaking on behalf of a group. The Board requests that a topic or comment be limited to three minutes or less.
Virtual Comments: Patrons must submit a request to participate by 4:00 p.m. the day of the meeting. This will be done via the Intent to Speak Google form, made available on the day of the meeting, which will allow them to choose one of the following options.
- Option 1: Submit a written statement to be read by the Board on their own time.
- Option 2: Request to make a statement directly to the Board. Audio and video would be allowed.
- Requestor would be sent a registration email to be an Attendee in the Zoom Webinar.
- After registration they would receive an individual link that will allow them to join as an Attendee.
- They would share voice only or fully participate with video. Statements will be allowed up to 3 minutes, at the Board's discretion. The Board Chair will indicate when time is up.
- They are returned to being an Attendee only after the given time.
- Option 3: We can call them at the given time to deliver their statement.
- We would call their phone number during the meeting to submit their comment.
Comentarios públicos en las reuniones de la Mesa Directiva

In every odd-numbered year, approximately half of Oregon public school board positions are up for election. On May 20, 2025, voters in the HSD attendance area will select candidates for Positions 1, 2, 3, and 6. These are currently held by Directors Erika Lopez, Mark Watson, Nancy Thomas, and Monique Ward, respectively.
If you are interested in learning more about board service, you are encouraged to attend one of HSD’s Prospective Board Member Information Sessions:

Student Representatives to the Board
The 2024-25 school year will be the seventh in which the School Board has invited student representatives to serve alongside them in an advisory capacity. The opportunity rotates annually, and in 2024-25 will be open to rising juniors and seniors at Liberty, Century and Hillsboro Online Academy. Student representatives will be selected this spring so they can go through orientation and attend summer workshops prior to the beginning of the school year. Additional information about eligibility, expectations, and the selection process is available below along with the application (español), which is due by Monday, Apr. 3, 2024.

Attend a Board Meeting
The public is invited to attend the public Board meetings to gain a better understanding of school district business and the role of the School Board. The public is also invited to address the Board during the public input portion of the regular monthly Board meetings.Individuals interested in addressing the Board should arrive a few minutes prior to the scheduled monthly meetings to complete and submit a public input form.
Regular Board meetings are held in the Administration Center Board Room at 3083 NE 49th Place, Hillsboro 97124, unless otherwise stated. Policy BD states, "One regular Board meeting will be held each month. The meeting schedule will be established at the organizational meeting in July but may be changed by the Board with proper notice. The purpose of each monthly meeting will be to conduct the regular Board business." The Board agenda and packet will be posted the Friday afternoon prior to the upcoming Board meeting.
Work Sessions and Special Meetings
In addition to the monthly Board meetings, the Board schedules work sessions and special meetings during the year to study and discuss District programs, issues, and goals. These meeting are also held in the Administration Center, located at 3083 NE 49th Place. Please refer to the individual agendas for the location and starting time of each meeting.
Board Meeting Agenda Information
Board meeting agendas are available on the District website on Fridays prior to the scheduled board meetings - and they are available to view at all the District's schools 24 hours prior to the scheduled meetings. Board agendas are divided into three major categories: Consent, Action and Reports, which are outlined as follows:
- Consent Agenda consists of routine items such as previous Board minutes, routine personnel actions, and routine financial transactions.
- Action Items are scheduled for a board vote and cover many topics. An opportunity for board discussion is allotted prior to final action.
- Reports/Information Only Items are presented for the Board's information. The Board may engage in discussion and ask questions of the presenter, but no formal action is taken.
Recognition and Presentations
Recognizing students, staff and community members for their accomplishments and contributions to the Hillsboro School District is a priority of the School Board. Recognitions and/or presentations are scheduled throughout the year to acknowledge the work of students, staff and the community - and to showcase programs, events, and student activities.
Serve on the Budget Committee
Application for Appointment to the Budget Committee
The 14-member Budget Committee comprises the District’s seven elected School Board members, and seven members appointed by the Board. Appointed members serve for three years.
Budget Committee meetings are held approximately once each month, usually in the evenings, from November through June, at the District Administration Center. The number and length of the meetings may vary.
Eligibility for the Budget Committee:
1. Live within the Hillsboro School District
2. Be a registered voter
3. Not be an officer or employee of the Hillsboro School District

Serve on the Community Curriculum Advisory Committee
The Community Curriculum Advisory Committee (CCAC) serves as a resource to the Board and Superintendent in setting the direction for long-range curriculum development and assisting in the development of the schools' curriculum and instructional programs. Committee responsibilities include reviewing curriculum, instructional programs, proposed new courses, and study team recommendations; and reporting findings and recommendations to the Board of Directors for discussion and action. Members of the CCAC consider a wide range of curriculum and program development topics.
Committee members are appointed to two-year terms by the Board of Directors. Candidates must reside within the boundaries of the Hillsboro School District and be available to attend committee meetings, which are conducted on the first Monday evening of each month, November through June. Committee members are also invited to participate in sub-committees and special projects as opportunities arise.
The Hillsboro School District is currently accepting applications for its Community Curriculum Advisory Committee (CCAC).
