Family Messaging

We are pleased to announce the Family Messaging Pilot Program.

Stay connected—even when cell phones aren’t allowed.

Family Messaging

  • Parents can message students during the school day via StudentSquare
  • Works on school-approved devices when cell phone restrictions are in place
  • District- and school-level controls with full administrative visibility

Who can use this?
Parents/Guardians, Staff, and High School Students (when StudentSquare is enabled) who reside in the same building.

What is the purpose of Family Mesaging?
ParentSquare Family Messaging is designed to facilitate communication between family members and school staff during school hours only. It is not intended to be an all-hours or primary platform for families to communicate amongst themselves.

What does Family Messaging Encompass?
Parents will be able to:
● Direct message their children at the school where they are enrolled
● Initiate a group conversation including the other parent(s), the teacher, and the student.
● Start groups conversations with only their children who reside at the same school

Parents will NOT be able to:
● Direct message only the other parent(s)

Students will be able to:
● Direct message parent legal guardian(s)

Students will NOT be able to:
● Direct message siblings

How is Family Messaging different from parent-to-parent messaging?
Parent-to-parent messaging allows any parent in a school to message any other parent. Family
Messaging only allows communications between parents linked to the same student, and must include
either or both the student and staff member.

Is Family Messaging monitored?
District Admin and individuals with the Message Monitor role have the ability to view all direct messages.

How will students be notified of Direct Messages if they are not permitted to use personal mobile
devices during school hours?

● Students can log into StudentSquare via Google or MSFT SSO in a browser tab.
● Students with email access will receive Direct Message notifications instantly, regardless of their
account settings (instant or digest). If a student has email notifications turned off, they will not
receive an email notification for the Direct Message.
