Featured Student: Barley’s Buddy Harvey P.

Each summer, Unitus Community Credit Union and the Hillsboro Hops team up to honor “Barley’s Buddies.” Buddies are students in grades K-6 who show determination, perseverance, and grit. Buddies receive a one-of-a-kind day at a Hillsboro Hops game that includes a stadium tour, gift bag with jersey, team interaction, club seats for all family members as well as the staff member who nominated them, and more. Ten students were selected this summer, including Brookwood’s Harvey P. Harvey attended the Hops game on Wednesday, July 17, along with his family and teacher, Michele Powers. “Harvey threw out the first pitch of the game - he was so nervous,” Powers explains. “I had the privilege of helping him and his family learn the rules of baseball and watching their eyes fill with joy over the first crack of the bat!” Many thanks to Unitus, the Hillsboro Hops, and Ms. Powers for providing this amazing experience; and way to go, Harvey! You make us Proud to be HSD!

Cada verano, Unitus Community Credit Union y los Hillsboro Hops se unen para honrar a los «Amigos de Barley». Los amigos seleccionados son estudiantes de los grados K-6 que muestran determinación, perseverancia y valor. Ellos obtienen acceso a un día especial durante un juego de los Hillsboro Hops, el cual incluye un recorrido por el estadio, una bolsa de regalo con una camiseta, interacción con el equipo, asientos en el club para todos los miembros de la familia, así como para el miembro del personal que los nominó, y mucho más. Este verano se seleccionaron diez estudiantes, incluyendo a Harvey P. de Brookwood. Harvey asistió al juego de los Hops el miércoles, 17 de julio, junto con su familia y su maestra, Michele Powers. «Harvey hizo el primer lanzamiento del juego; estaba muy nervioso», explica la Maestra Powers. «¡Tuve el privilegio de ayudarlo a él y a su familia a aprender las reglas del béisbol y ver sus ojos llenarse de alegría con el primer batazo!» Muchas gracias a Unitus, los Hillsboro Hops y a la Maestra Powers por brindarnos esta increíble experiencia; ¡Y así se hace, Harvey! ¡Nos haces sentir Orgullosos de Ser HSD!
