Featured Student: Violet Howard, CPR Hero

Liberty High School Health Education teacher Stephenie Fink shared an amazing story about one of her students - sophomore Violet Howard - and how she put her learning into action to help save a man’s life: “Recently, we completed our Injury and Safety Prevention Unit, which included training on how to perform CPR. During a practical exercise, Violet shared with me that she had to use these skills in a real-life emergency over Thanksgiving break. While driving with her mom, she witnessed a man collapse on the sidewalk. With remarkable composure, she pulled over and assisted her mother in calling 911. Violet bravely performed CPR on the victim, who was purple and not breathing. Thanks to her quick thinking and training, the man began to regain color and even started breathing with a weak pulse before medical professionals arrived. I am incredibly proud of Violet and believe her actions deserve recognition.” We couldn’t agree more, Ms. Fink! Outstanding job, Violet! You are a shining example of what makes us Proud to be HSD!

Stephenie Fink, maestra de salud de la Escuela Preparatoria Liberty, compartió una historia asombrosa sobre una de sus estudiantes, la sophomore Violet Howard, y cómo puso en práctica su aprendizaje para ayudar a salvar la vida de un hombre: «Recientemente, completamos nuestra Unidad sobre Prevención de Lesiones y Seguridad, que incluía capacitación sobre cómo realizar una reanimación cardiopulmonar (RCP). Durante un ejercicio práctico, Violet me compartió que tuvo que usar estas destrezas en una emergencia de la vida real durante el receso de Acción de Gracias. Mientras viajaba en el automóvil con su madre, vio a un hombre desplomarse sobre la acera. Con asombrosa compostura, se detuvo y ayudó a su madre a llamar al 911. Violet valientemente realizó el procedimiento de RCP a la víctima, que estaba con un tono morado y no respiraba. Gracias a su rapidez de pensamiento y capacitación, el hombre comenzó a recuperar su tono natural de piel e incluso empezó a respirar, manteniendo un pulso débil mientras llegaban las asistencias médicas.
