Spring High School Plays
Spring might not be here just yet, but our high school Drama crews have been hard at work and are ready to showcase their second semester productions. Come out and join them for an upcoming performance:
Liberty High School’s Peregrine Productions presents The Scottish Play, a ritual adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. The cast is embedded in the audience and use in-house produced sounds and drumming with student made cajones. Shows take place in the Round at Liberty on February 14, 15, 21, and 22 at 7 p.m. Seating is limited; tickets are $10. Fun facts: All costumes for this show - including armor, crowns, tunics, etc. - were made by hand and the crew is using tons of items that were donated by the Liberty community. It is a very young cast and they’ve been working hard to make this a memorable production!
Glencoe High School’s Theatre + Film will perform The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, by William Finn, Rachel Shenkin, and Rebecca Feldman. This is a heartwarming and hilarious musical in which young spellers compete in the county spelling bee hosted by a self-absorbed past winner and a disgruntled vice principal. Shows on February 21, 22, 27, 28, and March 1 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 online through 6 p.m. on the night of each show, or $15 at the door. Recommended for ages 13+.
Hillsboro High School Theatre presents Little Women The Musical. Based on Louisa May Alcott’s life, Little Women follows the adventures of sisters Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy March. Jo is trying to sell her stories for publication, but the publishers are not interested. A friend tells her she has to do better and write more from her own life, so she weaves into her story the experiences she and her sisters had growing up in Civil War America. Shows on March 7, 8, 14, and 15 at 7 p.m.; matinees on March 8 and 15 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $13 for students and seniors, $15 for adults.
Century High School Theater Company takes on You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Based on the beloved Charles Schultz comic strip, the play follows Charlie Brown and his fellow Peanuts characters as they explore the mysteries of life while playing baseball, singing songs, and spending time together as friends. Shows on March 7, 8, 13, 14, and 15 at 7 p.m.; matinee on March 15 at 2 p.m. Stay tuned to their website for additional information.
