Academic Bee Nationals
Six HSD students traveled with their families across the country to Orlando, FL to compete in the IAC Nationals for Science Bee, Geography Bee, and History Bee. Congratulations to Amal Adigun, Abdul Shakur Adigun, Raghaswi Bacharaju, Sam Dennison, Bona Kemal, and Shreenika Sadineni!
These students competed against students from all over the US in their subject of expertise in four rounds of questions over the course of the long weekend. It’s one thing to know the answers, it’s an entirely different thing to buzz in before the other eight contestants to get the point. As the rounds went on, students gained confidence and scored points - some even “buzzed out” when they got 5 points before the round was over!
IAC believes that academic competitions can enrich the lives of children by giving them the incentive to study hard and foster a lifelong love of learning, while at the same time introducing them to like-minded peers across America and around the world. IAC sees its mission as introducing as many students as possible to the joy and fulfillment of academic competition, and encouraging students to develop their intellectual, social, and moral capacities through participation in the many programs offered. More information can be found here.
Next year, HSD will host a Regional Tournament in November, which will allow more time for families to plan travel and students to prepare for nationals in May.
Big Congratulations to our Academic Bee Scholars!
