Liberty High School Ceramics Scores Big at National Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

During Spring Break, judging results arrived from New York for the National Competition of the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. We are proud to celebrate Liberty High School ceramic student Axel Weeks, who earned not one, but two National Silver Medals. This achievement is especially impressive given that more than 110,000 students submitted over 335,000 original works.
Since 1923, the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards have recognized outstanding teen artists and writers across the nation. With this honor, Axel joins a distinguished legacy of alumni that includes celebrated figures such as Tschabalala Self, Stephen King, Kay WalkingStick, Charles White, Joyce Carol Oates, Amanda Gorman, and Andy Warhol—all of whom were recognized by the Awards as teenagers.
Axel’s award-winning work will be featured in the online galleries at artandwriting.org and included in Yearbook 2026, a companion publication to the annual anthologies highlighting selections from National Medalists.
Congratulations, Axel, on this remarkable accomplishment! S
