Glencoe’s Team Shockwave Hosts Robo Expo - March 1
February 10, 2018 – Glencoe High School’s Team Shockwave is pleased to announce its Robo Expo, taking place on Thursday, March 1, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the Glencoe High School cafeteria (2700 NW Glencoe Road, Hillsboro).
The Robo Expo will feature FIRST® Robotics teams in grades K‐12 from across the Hillsboro School District. FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC®), FIRST® Technology Competition (FTC®), and FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL®) categories will all be represented by teams demonstrating their robots, trophies, and visual displays.
Robo Expo’s main event will be the public unveiling of Team Shockwave’s newest competition robot. For the current competition, teams had to create robots that could pick up golden cubes, lift them high onto scoring platforms, and insert the cubes into scoring portals on the ground. During the contests (March 9-10 at Wilsonville High School and March 24-25 at Glacier Peak High School in Snohomish, WA), teams must work closely with randomly‐assigned alliance teams to complete their robots’ performance task. The team also hopes to qualify for regional championships in Portland, OR and world championships in Houston, TX.
Team Shockwave boasts 36 student members and an astounding 15 mentors—most of whom are professional engineers. Since January, team members have been working six days per week—2.5 hours on weekdays and up to 12 hours on Saturdays—to design, build, program and test their robot.
This event is open to the community and provided free of charge, however an optional spaghetti dinner will be available for $10; funds raised will go to support Team Shockwave’s travel and activities.
