May 6, 2021Dear Eastwood Staff and Families,
As you know, we have been seeking a new principal for Eastwood Elementary School, subsequent to Lindsay Garcia’s selection as executive director of elementary schools. Today, I’m pleased to announce that Jose Barraza has been chosen for the position.
Mr. Barraza has been the assistant principal at South Meadows Middle School since 2013, where he has been a key member of the leadership team alongside principals Becky Rios, Mary Mendez, and Justin Welch. He did his student teaching at David Hill and Minter Bridge Elementary Schools in both 1st/2nd and 4th/5th blend classrooms, and was a 2nd grade Dual Language teacher at Minter Bridge Elementary School for five years before taking on his current role at South Meadows. Mr. Barraza also spent three years as the lead teacher at the District’s Migrant Summer School program prior to his transition.
Mr. Barraza has a natural rapport with students, and ability to connect and create partnerships with parents and community organizations. Earlier this week, he was surprised with a Crystal Apple Award nomination from the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce for exemplifying excellence in education. Rooted in equity, grounded in high-quality instructional practices, and committed to ensuring every student has the resources, support, and opportunities to succeed, I am confident Mr. Barraza will do a great job leading Eastwood Elementary School.
Please join me in congratulating Mr. Barraza on his new assignment and welcoming him to the Eastwood community.
Thank you,
Mike Scott

Gracias,
Mike Scott
