Notifications

There are many reasons why your school or the District may need to notify you. We are always striving to seek the right balance of making sure you are kept informed - in the most useful way - and not overwhelming you. Below are both some of the common reasons we will communicate with you and the methods by which we will reach out to you. As always, our ability to communicate with you is only as good as the information we have. Please be sure to keep your phone number and e-mail address current in our Synergy Student Information System, which you can access through ParentVUE.

Reasons why we may contact you:

  • Daily attendance calls
  • Nutrition account balance calls
  • Inclement weather (please see the inclement weather page for additional information)
  • Emergencies
  • Safety incidents
  • Regular communication from your child's school (e.g. principal newsletter)
  • Event reminders (e.g. conferences)
  • Other

Platform Description
District Website Our website, www.hsd.k12.or.us, is your main source of information about what is happening in the District. In the event there is urgent or time-sensitive information to share, we will post updates to the alert bar at the top of the homepage. Typically, there will be a link to the Safety Alerts page, which is where we can share additional information and maintain a running log of updates.

Flash Alert Emergency Notification System

The Hillsboro School District uses an Internet-based service for weather-related school closure information and to relay important information to the public in the event of an emergency. The public can sign-up for Flash Alerts to receive emergency alert messages via push notifications to your mobile device through the Flash Alert app. Click on the link to be directed to the site for Hillsboro School District messages. Flash Alert is also the system we use to send out press releases for important events or accomplishments within the District.
Local Radio and TV stations Local Radio and TV Stations will receive information and updates from the Flash Alert system regarding school district emergencies and inclement weather delays and closures.
School Notifications Alternate methods of communication, such as phone calls, broadcast phone messages, and/or letters may be used as appropriate. Please check with your child's school for information on procedures. It is essential that you provide reliable emergency contact information to your child's school to ensure you or an authorized designee can be reached quickly in the event of an emergency.
SMS Text Messages from 606-80 Starting Nov. 12, 2019 - Parents and HSD staff in our database will receive SMS text alerts from shortcode 60680 unless they choose to opt-out. Opting in and out of SMS text messages can be done at any time, simply text START to 60680 to opt-in or STOP to the same number to opt-out. Keep in mind that unless your information is up to date in our Synergy Student Information System or, for staff, our iVisions system, you will not receive a text. Currently, texting is limited to the district level. School texting may be enabled after training can be completed.
Hillsboro School District app Hillsboro School District's mobile app will be used to send push notifications in the event of a school delay or closure.  Push notifications will also be sent for other important district-wide announcements.  The app can be downloaded free from the App Store or Google play. Please make sure you have enabled push notifications in the settings section of your app and, if it's been a while since you downloaded the app, consider deleting and reinstalling it so you have the most current version.
Facebook and Twitter The District’s Facebook and Twitter pages are immediately updated when a weather delay/closure or other emergency message is sent out via FlashAlert. We will also use these sites to post additional information as needed.
