  • Dave Vickery Selected as Hilhi Principal

April 19, 2018, Hillsboro, OR - Superintendent Scott announced today that Dave Vickery, currently an assistant principal at Glencoe High School, has been selected as the new principal of Hillsboro High School (Hilhi).

Hilhi’s current principal, Lou Bailey, announced earlier this spring that he was accepting the job of executive director of secondary programs for the Lake Oswego School District.

Having served as both dean of students and as an assistant principal, Vickery has a history with and deep affection for Hilhi. He states that this is his “dream job,” and that he is excited to partner with the staff to further strengthen instructional practices and build upon successful student outcomes.

Vickery’s educational career began ten years ago when he taught both general and special education at Cascade Jr. High School in Turner, OR. He moved to Hillsboro in 2010 and accepted at job at South Meadows Middle School as a special education teacher and PBIS coordinator. In the 2013-14 school year, Vickery served as the dean of students at Hilhi, and for the following two years he was one of the school’s two assistant principals. Since 2016, Vickery has been an assistant principal at Glencoe High School.

“Dave is an equity-minded and collaborative leader who is committed to continual improvement,” notes Scott. “He has worked on systems and structures to enhance communication and programs for the betterment of students and staff. I am confident he will do an excellent job as principal of Hilhi.”

Vickery officially assumes his new position on July 1, 2018.

    Dear Hilhi Families,

I’m writing to you today to let you know that this school year will be my last at Hillsboro High School, as I have accepted the job of executive director of secondary programs in the Lake Oswego School District, effective July 1, 2018.

While I am excited about this new opportunity and the personal and professional growth it will offer, I am also sad to leave this amazing school, staff, and student body.

A process for filling my position is still being determined and will be announced soon.

Thank you very much for your partnership and support over these past two and a half years. I have learned and developed as both an individual and as a leader, and I will always be grateful for my time spent here at Hilhi.

    Sincerely,

    Lou Bailey

    Atentamente,

    Lou Bailey

Principal's Message

  • Lou Bailey Dear Hilhi Families,

Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year!

I am thrilled and honored to be your Principal and to serve our learning community. For those of you new to Hilhi, we are thrilled to welcome you to the Spartan family, and for those families returning, welcome back to another exciting school year!

We will be enrolling nearly 1,300 students this fall, and we are eager to welcome our new freshmen class, all of our new students in grades 10-12, and looking forward to an amazing year as our seniors begin their last year in high school!

Hilhi is an outstanding school with a rich tradition of excellence, school spirit, and immense pride.  I am very impressed with the academic options and opportunities available to all Hilhi students.  In addition, I am so appreciative of the relentless focus on learning from our teachers, students, and community. As a comprehensive high school, we get to showcase our students as they excel in our academic program, successfully participate in athletics and activities, and display their talents in our fine and performing arts programs.

Our staff is ready for the challenges and opportunities this school year will bring.  We understand we need to continue to ensure each and every student achieves at a high level and is challenged.  In addition, we have several important focus areas for us this year: we need to continue to create meaningful and stronger relationships with students as it is important teachers know each of their student’s name, need, and strength and students know adults care for them; we need to improve our student attendance rate and we need your support in this goal and make sure your student attends school each and every day; and we want to make sure every student enrolls in courses that lead them to be College and Career prepared after they graduate from Hilhi!

I encourage you to get to know your Guidance Counselor, stay connected to your student’s teachers, and help keep your student focused and organized.  We are all in this together, and we are here for you whenever you need our support.

We are extremely excited to make the 2017-2018 school year an amazing one.  I am honored to be part of the Hilhi family and look forward to the year…GO SPARTS!

    Sincerely,

    Lou Bailey, Principal
