2/10/23
Dear Hillsboro Online Academy Families,
We hope this letter finds you well and enjoying 2023 thus far. We have some information to share with you about a District campus restructure that will be put in place for HOA this fall.
Beginning in the 2023-24 school year, HOA 9-12 will be housed at Oak Street Campus (OSC) and HOA K-8 will be housed at the new Tamarack Elementary School in South Hillsboro.
OSC Principal Amy Torres will have official leadership responsibility for HOA; however, a new assistant principal will be named for the school and that person will be the primary supervisor of staff and main point-of-contact for HOA students and families. The new assistant principal will support both campuses virtually and in person, with offices in each location. Our Human Resources department will be collecting feedback on the qualities staff and families would like to see in the new assistant principal via survey in the coming weeks; please keep an eye out for additional information.
We will continue with a dedicated HOA instructional coach role supporting K-12. The instructional coach will rotate between campuses as needed to support individual teachers as well as the K-12 alignment and professional development needs of HOA.
Moving HOA 9-12 to OSC will allow high school students to connect with HOA and Pathways Center staff, and provide them with access to modern drop-in and study spaces at the Pathways Center. It will also facilitate concurrent enrollment of OSC students in HOA classes. HOA at the OSC creates another aligned pathway to graduation and beyond for students who prefer a different setting and require a more flexible approach than the one provided by traditional high schools.
Moving HOA K-8 to Tamarack will provide more space for staff and drop-in access for students as the school will open well below capacity. It will also allow for full-time staffing of key positions that can serve both HOA and Tamarack such as in PE, Music, and Counseling. In addition, housing HOA K-8 in an elementary school will enhance the focus on the K-8 experience, both from an environmental and programmatic standpoint. Tamarack Principal Christy Walters will serve as a support for HOA K-8.
As HOA students and families, your experience will remain largely the same; however when you need or want to come to campus for assistance or programming, you will no longer be coming to Peter Boscow but rather to OSC and Tamarack, respectively. Please know that the District continues to strongly value HOA and understands its important role as an educational option.
Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns, and thank you for your ongoing support of our wonderful school.
Sincerely,
Linda Harrington, Audrea Neville,
Principal Assistant Superintendent
