Central to this inclusive program is providing participating students with opportunities, support systems, and mentoring based supports that takes into consideration the strengths, needs, and interests of students (youth voice-and-choice). Consequently, the overall goal of the program is to foster overall wellbeing, positive youth-adult and peer relationships, a sense of belonging, positive youth development, and school connectedness in program youth. Resources

Academic Support
LYP students are provided with the opportunity to explore various internships through HSD’s connections with local businesses as well as through the school district's Career & College Pathways Program. In addition the students in the program are also provided with scholarship opportunities that are distributed by the programs Youth Development Specialist Alex Alfaro Reyes.

By providing the students with these opportunities we are contributing to their futures both professionally and personally.

Fundraisers
One of our objectives is to offer students the opportunity to lead and organize school community events such as fundraisers. These events give students the opportunity to lead, organize, manage and oversee finances and budgets as well as the marketing aspect of a small business.

This past school year our program at Liberty High School organized a Kettle Corn and Agua de Horchata fundraiser to raise money for field trips and additional funds for other program expenses.

One of our other programs at Century High School organized a Fruit fundraiser to raise money for field trips and additional funds for other program expenses as well. This experience gave the students the opportunity to step out of their comfort zone and try something different.

Field Trips
The Latino Youth Program aims to provide their students with extracurricular activities such as field trips throughout the school year. This past year all of our 8 participating secondary schools participated in at least one field trip.

Our high school students participate yearly in the MENTE Summit. Which is a Latino male conference in which students have the opportunity to network with local Latino leaders who provide shared experiences both personally and professionally. In addition various sessions are held on career, identity and college resources.

This past year our program at Liberty High School provided their students with an opportunity to connect with nature and disconnect from technology by taking them to Rainbow Trout Farm. This field trip was possible thanks to the students' hard work with the Kettle corn fundraiser.

One last field trip highlight comes from our program at Century High School which provided our students with the opportunity to attend a Portland Timbers game. This was an unbelievable experience for our students and facilitators. This field trip was possible thanks to the students' hard work with the Fruit fundraiser.

LYP Hilhi Greenhouse Project
At Hillsboro High School, our program has taken on the restoration of the old greenhouse as a way to reconnect with nature. Through this hands-on project, students engage in horticultural therapy that supports their mental and emotional well-being, strengthens physical health, and fosters positive relationships with peers and facilitators.

Additionally students will learn skills such as Problem-Solving, Project Planning, Tool Use, Teamwork & Collaboration, Communication, Leadership, Responsibility, Work Ethic and Creativity. These skills will provide students with the proper foundation for their future career paths.
