Overview
"Every kid is one caring adult away from being a success story." - Josh Shipp
The importance of a mentor in a young person's life cannot be overestimated. Especially for students who have historically experienced opportunity barriers or who are facing current challenges in their lives, having someone to guide, support, and encourage them in their personal growth and development is critical.
Typically, mentors will establish a long-term relationship with a student or group of students that involves regular check-ins. This is usually more time-consuming than other forms of volunteerism; however, it can still be tailored to the mentor's preferences and availability.
The following pages describe some of the opportunities and programs offered in the Hillsboro School District, but there are many that exist at individual schools as well. If you are interested in learning more, please contact Alex Alfaro Reyes or Alma Hernandez at the District office or your local school.
