HSD Early College

Description: 
The Hillsboro School District Early College program allows students to begin work on their college career at Portland Community College while still in high school. College credits earned apply to both the high school diploma and college studies. Students will have the opportunity to take 12 credits per term (fall, winter, spring) during the school year in which they are enrolled in HSD Early College. Students who enroll at the start of their 11th grade year will have the opportunity to participate in up to 6 terms of HSD Early College, while students entering at the start of 12th grade may participate in up to 3 terms. Students accepted to HSD Early College will not be able to enroll in courses at their home high school. However, they may be able to participate in OSAA activities and athletics. HSD Early College Application OPEN for 2024-2025

HSD Early College is excited to begin our recruitment process for Cohort 5 this winter! The application  opens March 1st and is available on our website: https://www.hsd.k12.or.us/earlycollege

Interested students who will be entering grades 11 or 12 in the 2024-2025 school year should plan to attend a required Family/Guardian Information session for more information. These sessions are scheduled throughout quarter 3 and 4. Application will be open March 1-May 1, 2024.

Hillsboro Online Academy

Target group: Students K-12 grade looking for a full-time online educational option or that are interested in taking online courses while attending their neighborhood school.

Description: A hybrid program offering rigorous online curriculum, face- to-face instruction and support for all students. Hillsboro Online is accredited and core courses are NCAA approved.


Hillsboro Big Picture School

Target group: High school students looking for an alternative high school experience focusing on student-directed activities.  Students who are in the yellow zone. 
Application: No, however, students will be scheduled for a meet and greet.

Description: The Big Picture Learning design is a dynamic approach to learning, doing, and thinking that has been changing the lives of students, educators, and entire communities since 1995. The design components are based on three foundation principles: first, learning must be based on the interests and goals of each student; second, student’s curriculum must be relevant to the people and places that exist in the real world; and finally, a student’s abilities must be authentically measured by the quality of her or his work.


Oregon's High School Equivalency Program(GED)

Target group:  Students 17 years old or older looking to complete their high school education through GED rather than a high school diploma. Student must be at grade level in reading.

Description: A set of tests that when passed certify the test taker has met high-school level academic skills.


 

Oregon National Guard Youth Challenge Program (OYCP)*

Target group: The target population of Cadets is generally those considered “academically at risk.”  Those who are failing in school, not attending, or those who have dropped out. Cadets must be able and willing to participate in all activities to be successful in this program.  This is an all or nothing program. Cadets who enroll in OYCP must complete the entire 5 month residential phase in order to receive any credit or educational credential.

Description: The Oregon National Guard Youth Challenge Program (OYCP) is the only accredited statewide alternative high school.  The program is tuition free. Eligible individuals are accepted from all 36 counties in Oregon. The school is a non-traditional model that operates similar to a military academy.  The program is guided by military principles, structure and self-discipline. Our staff utilize a “hands off”, tough love, caring, and disciplined approach to instill values, train and instruct cadets.  Cadets are eligible to earn a high school diploma, GED or credit recovery of 8 certified credits from required class work completion. The school is accredited by the Northwest Accreditation Commission (NWAC) and approved by the Oregon Department of Education (ODE). There are two phases to the program.  The first is a 22 week, residential phase where Cadets live on site participating in military structure, discipline, physical fitness, service to community and academic classroom instruction.
