Overview

In the Hillsboro School District, we believe that language is a powerful part of identity, learning, and community. Our Multilingual Programs support students in becoming bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural—skills that open doors in school, careers, and life.

We serve students who speak languages other than English at home, including those learning English, those in Dual Language programs, and those working toward the Oregon State Seal of Biliteracy.

Our department works to ensure every multilingual student is seen, heard, and supported as they develop their full linguistic potential.

What We Do

We support multilingual students and families through the following programs:

• English Language Development (ELD): Academic language instruction for students identified as English Learners.
   

• Dual Language Programs:
  Bilingual instruction in Spanish and English from PreK through high school.
   

• Newcomer & Immigrant Support: Specialized services for students new to the U.S. school system.
   

• Heritage Language Development: Instruction that supports literacy in students’ home languages.
   

• Migrant Education Services:
  Support migratory children attain academic success by reducing learning disruptions caused by frequent moves.
   

• State Seal of Biliteracy:
  High school recognition for students who demonstrate fluency in English and another language.
