Project Updates
Nov. 11, 2022
The new fencing adjacent to the parking lot provides both a barrier to entry on the campus as well as prevents children from running into the parking lot. Gates are locked during the school day, and allow a managed flow of students off the campus when opened at dismissal time.
Photo 1: the fencing at the south end of the building has been adjusted back a few feet and a new gate installed.
Photo 2: gates also have been installed on the new fencing along the play field.
Photos 1-3: fencing and gates are being added to separate the play fields from the parking lot, preventing students from running into vehicle traffic.
The vegetative corridor has been restored and fencing installed to separate the area from the play field.
At Lenox, the vegetative corridor was degraded. Restoration of this corridor is important to maintain various ecological functions for water quality and filtration.
Photo 1: the vegetative corridor first had to be cleared of invasive blackberry bushes and other shrubs.
Photo 2: planting small trees and shrubs to restore the vegetative corridor.
Photos 1 and 2: Students arrived to new flexible furniture on the first day of school. Some classrooms use the "boomerang" desks (1), while others use two-student tables (2).
Photos 3 and 4: All the upgrades to HVAC ductwork and conduits are now hidden underneath ceiling tiles in the cafeteria.
Photo 5: students line up in the siesmically-upgraded gym.
Photo 6: a crossing guard helps students cross the new dropoff area.
The dropoff areas and parking lot have been paved and striped with markings. Landscape had been installed a couple weeks before. Final asphalt renovation on the street section of the bus dropoff (bottom left of photo) will be completed shortly.
Photos 1 and 2: new landscaping is being installed in the dropoff/parking lot area.
Photo 3: new sidewalk has been constructed around the dropoffs.
Photo 4: all of the summer's HVAC upgrades are being covered up by ceiling tiles in the cafeteria and the rest of the building.
Photo 5: fresh paint brightens up a hallway.
Photo 1: aerial view of dropoffs/parking lots.
Photos 2 and 3: seismic upgrades, such as these shown in building walls and the play area awnings, bring up the school to the "safe exit" standard.
Photo 4: work continues with HVAC system and ductwork, including in the cafeteria ceiling.
Photo 5: the hardscape play area has been newly paved to a much smoother surface.
Photo 1: aerial view of the parking lot/dropoff area.
Photo 2: concrete curb is starting to be formed around the parking lot.
Photo 4: seismic bracing is also being installed in the gym.
Photo 5: new storm drain pipe is being installed in the south side of the campus.
Photo 1: New HVAC ducts are being installed in the cafeteria.
Photos 2 and 3: In the classrooms, new HVAC equipment will add air conditioning, served by individual handling units for each room as well as the central system outside.
Photo 4: Seismic retrofits are being installed throughout the building.
Photo 5: Seismic work includes the gym.
Photo 6: Outside, a catch basin is being trenched and installed as part of the underground storm drain system.
Excavation and grading of the dropoffs and parking lot are underway. The parent dropoff (top) is separate from the bus dropoff for added safety as well as improved queueing off of Rock Creek Road.
Crews begin clearing trees and brush to prepare for excavation and grading of the parking lot areas.
