Timeline for McKinney construction

Please note that project costs and schedules may fluctuate due to cost of materials and labor, conditions at the site, unforeseen and/or revised scope, and other factors. Total costs: $10.1 million

COMPLETED

  • Domestic Water Pipe Replacement

Deteriorating pipes were replaced over the summer 2022 break to ensure reliable domestic water service to the building.

  • New Gym

Starting October 2020, and concluding September 2021, a new gymnasium was built at the back of the campus, enabling dedicated use for PE and activities, separate from the cafeteria, and providing recreational resources for community youth leagues. The gym was constructed to "immediate occupancy" seismic standards, providing an emergency shelter resource for the community in case of a major earthquake.

  • Building Improvements

Beginning in spring and concluding in summer 2021, the school building underwent renovations that include seismic, roofing and ADA accessibility upgrades (restroom, lift). The media center was remodeled to upgrade and brighten the space.

Renovations also include an upgraded entry vestibule that will enhance security and the capability to monitor and limit entry into the building. Existing security systems were enhanced and upgraded with measures such as security cameras, card key access, strobes, and visual warning inside and outside the building.

  • Parent/Bus Dropoff Area

McKinney's first bond project, an improved parent/bus dropoff area, was constructed in summer 2018. The parent/bus dropoff includes improved lighting and separate parent and bus travel loops that is expected to improve safety for vehicles and pedestrians, as well as efficiency of traffic flow.

  • New Modular Building

Three existing portable structures were replaced by a new modular building; it includes three classrooms and a bathroom facility (students no longer need to go into the main building). The modular was completed in summer 2018.

  • Flexible Furniture

New flexible furniture (FFE) was delivered to McKinney classrooms in summer 2019. Research has shown that this type of furniture helps stimulate student engagement and learning.
