Project Updates
March 8, 2021
The sound walls surrounding the HVAC units have been painted and the grass area around them beginning to be restored.
Photos 1-3: sound walls have been installed around the exterior HVAC mechanical units.
Photos 1-3: walls and windows have replaced the sliding glass doors that used to be in the classrooms. The replacements not only will increase security in the building, but should decrease noise as well. This project was conducted by HSD's Facilities Department.
Photos 1 and 2: although the state's coronavirus-related restrictions prevent students from playing on it yet, the playground will be available when they return to school or restrictions are lifted. Rubberized tiles have been installed, completing the work on the playground. Fencing will be added.
Photos 1 and 2: rubberized tiles have begun to be installed on the playground. Once the installation is complete (by the 24th), they are given a few days to settle.
Photos 1 and 2: the play structure has been assembled, including the swing set. Next comes installation of the rubberized tiles.
The playground is being assembled behind the gym, with scheduled completion (pending weather) around spring break.
It was a festive grand opening and ribbon-cutting celebration as students, staff and families entered the new gymnasium for the very first time.
Photos 1-3: as of dawn, the gym is receiving its finishing touches, including outdoor lighting and cleanup of the gym floor and hallway.
Photos 1 and 2: crew members have begun to install the wood floors, which will require a few weeks of conditioning before finishing and varnishing.

The project crew has excavated the site for the new modular building and is constructing the forms for the concrete foundation.
Crews work on excavating the foundation for the new modular building.
Mooberry's tile floors were removed to reveal the concrete underneath. Over the summer, the concrete will be polished and refinished.
As part of continuing work to clear out the south side of the campus, an underground oil storage tank was removed from the Mooberry site. The tank was part of the original construction of the school in 1963. Residual oil was drained out and the tank thoroughly cleaned before it was transported off the campus. The soil is now being tested to determine if there were any leaks from the tank.
Removal of the old play structure and initial excavation of the south side of the Mooberry campus started on March 18. Crews will be removing an old underground oil storage tank that was covered over by the playground. Work will continue through the summer to install a new modular building and playground in this area.
Project staff presented the proposed site plan and design for Mooberry renovations, including:
- New gymnasium (built to immediate occupancy standards, could serve as a community emergency shelter in case of a major earthquake)
- Seismic upgrades
- New roofing
- Air conditioning
- Domestic water pipe replacement
- New playground with synthetic play surface
- Replacing existing portables with new five-classroom modular building
- Safety and security improvements
Based upon public input, the district evaluated the proposed location of the new modular building. View the revised site plan.
