2018-19 - Playground & Modular

An old portable, at the end of its life, is demolished to make way for an asphalt-paved area. Students who were formerly housed in the portable are now in the new modular building, which opened in January.

W.L. Henry Elementary sixth-graders entered their new classrooms in the modular building constructed through the 2017 HSD Bond.

Utility connections and the entry walkway have been completed, and the modular building will be ready for students when they return from winter break.

Crews connect a sewer line from W.L. Henry's new modular to the main pipe across the field. Water and electrical connections have been completed. The floor will be worked on next Tuesday, Dec. 11, and the building is expected to be ready for students to move into their classrooms after winter break.

The old portable has been replaced with a permanent modular building housing three classrooms and restroom.

• Playground is Popular

Students are enjoying their new play structure, swings and play area.

The play area is complete, and ready for students and the start of school.

Synthetic turf is being laid onto the play area. After some heating and settling, the turf will be cut to shape, stretched across the surface, and tacked into place.

The concrete base for the playground's rubberized tiles has been installed. Water sprinklers are run to allow the concrete to cure evenly in the extreme heat. The holes are where the posts of the play structure will be placed.

The concrete on the outside border of the play area is curing. Forms have been added to the interior of the area for additional concrete pouring.

Play structure posts have been removed so that the play area can be leveled and prepared for the concrete pour. The play structure will be recreated once the play area is readied.

Poles from the existing play structure remain standing as the play area is prepared for a concrete base, on which rubberized tiles will be laid.
