Dec. 1, 2020 - the blue jay was selected as a mascot for the school, as nearly 550 students and community members responded to last month's survey. Eleven animals with indigenous cultural significance were among the choices.
Oct. 27, 2020 - the School Board officially adopted the name "Atfalati Ridge" for the new school, replacing the working name of "ES28." Atfalati (ah-TFAH-lah-tee), means "The people," and is what the indigenous Tualatin Kalapuya called themselves. Here is an audio guide to the pronunciation of Atfalati, provided by the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde.

Summer 2020 - Summer 2021
- New School
Using the replacement Brookwood Elementary School design as the prototype, Atfalati Ridge Elementary is a new, 73,500 sq. ft., two-story school is being constructed in the Sunset Ridge development of North Plains. This will add another school to serve the area along with the existing North Plains Elementary School, and accommodate the potential additional students in the growing area.
Although an earlier timeline of construction was being considered, enrollment projections indicate that the existing North Plains Elementary School will have the capacity to serve North Plains area students through the 2020-2021 school year. The original timeline will be maintained and the new school will open to students in September 2021. View the talking points and FAQs document for more information.
The address for Atfalati Ridge Elementary School is 29174 NW King Street. North Plains, OR 97133.
