Featured Event: Farmington View and Liberty Earn Green Schools Certification
September 23, 2019 - Congratulations are in order for Farmington View Elementary School and Liberty High School! At the end of the 2018-19 school year, both achieved the Oregon Green Schools (OGS) certification.
Farmington View renewed their designation and continued to shine as environmental stewards by implementing ongoing sustainable practices within their regular routines. The school has established a Green Team with the help of principal Nabil Zerizef and teacher Breanna Wilkinson.
Liberty students and staff earned their first OGS certification in June 2019. The student Green Team, along with the help of principal Greg Timmons, teacher Paul Lardy, and Washington County Solid Waste & Recycling, performed their first waste audit in January and worked diligently towards OGS certification all year.
Official certificates were recently delivered to both schools for their accomplishment.
Here are just a couple of the schools’ adopted eco-habits:
- The staff lounge uses durable dishes and utensils rather than single-use items.
- They reduce copy paper consumption by using half-sheets whenever possible.
Glencoe High School and Lincoln Street, Quatama, and McKinney Elementary Schools have all either already earned their OGS certification or are currently in the renewal process. Way to go!
¡Bien hecho!
