Dive into the festivities on Tuesday, Oct. 1, by attending ArtsFest at the Walters Cultural Arts Center between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. where there will be musical performances by several groups, including HSD’s own Mariachi Una Voz. Then at 6 p.m. head up to the corner of 2nd Ave. and Main St. for the kick-off of the Wishing Tree Initiative.
The Wishing Tree is intended to serve as a place of unity where community comes together to share wishes and hopes for the future. It is both a community building activity and an artistic demonstration during the month of October. Opening remarks will be shared by Lincoln Street Principal Carmen Brodniak and Glencoe Principal Claudia Ruf, along with Hillsboro Arts and Culture Council representative Joan Callaway, as colorful “wishing chains” made by Lincoln Street and Glencoe students, and custom cards made by Youth Advisory Council students, are showcased among sparkling lights. Attendees will be invited to write a wish and tie their tag onto a string of community wishes.
