Patrick Maguire Selected for Hillsboro School Board

June 23, 2022 - At their work session on Tuesday, June 21, Hillsboro School Board members conducted interviews of the four candidates who had applied to fill the position vacated by Director Yadira Martinez earlier this spring. Then at their regular session later that evening, they appointed Patrick Maguire as the new Director by a vote of 4-1 (Director Lopez was not present). Maguire took his seat at the dais and began his service immediately upon taking the Oath of Office administered by Board Chair Mark Watson.  In his statement of interest for the position, Maguire wrote the following: “When our family chose to make our home here in Hillsboro, the reputation of this community’s excellent and caring educational system was one of the reasons. Because of my appreciation for that system, I’ve been glad to take on volunteerism roles that support schools and the students they serve. In these roles, I have had a chance to see the hard work and meaningful impact of the members of the Board of Directors in a school system. So it is with seriousness and a real sense of humility that now, after encouragement from a number of friends and trusted colleagues, I am submitting my application to join the Board.” Maguire is a freelance curriculum writer and a member of the District’s Community Curriculum Advisory Committee. He will hold position 7 on the Hillsboro School Board through June 30, 2023.
