Amy Torres Named Principal of Miller Education Programs
Thursday, May 13, 2021 - Superintendent Scott announced today that Amy Torres, current assistant principal at Liberty High School, would be the next principal of Alternative Programs, Miller Education Center (MEC), and Hillsboro Big Picture (HBP), effective July 1, 2021.
Torres will take over from Tiffany Mosqueda, whose husband’s job relocation will necessitate a move out of state this summer.
Torres began her career as an 8th grade teacher at J.B. Thomas Middle School. She was a member of the South Meadows Middle School planning team in the 2008-09 school year, and then went on to teach 7th and 8th grades when the school opened in 2009. While at South Meadows, she served as the Middle Years Program (MYP) Coordinator from 2011-2013, and as a bilingual coach in 2012-13. In 2013, she became the assistant principal at Brown Middle School, and served as the interim principal of that school from December 2015 through June 2016, at which point she transitioned to her current role at Liberty.
Torres’ oversight of ninth graders has enabled students to feel welcome and connected to their school, and her leadership played a significant role in the development of Liberty’s Ninth Grade On Track Program.
“Bilingual in English and Spanish, Amy is an experienced and talented leader who is dedicated to closing the achievement gap while increasing the achievement of all students,” notes Scott. “I am confident she will do a great job at MEC/HBP.”
