District Receives $255,000 to Help Replace Buses
April 8, 2019 - HSD recently learned of its selection for funding under the EPA’s Diesel Emission Reduction Act School Bus Rebate Program. Our award of $255,000 for the current school year will be used to help offset 20 percent of the cost of replacing 13 of our buses that do not meet current emissions standards, moving us closer to compliance with the deadline of 2025 for ensuring all buses in our fleet are eco-friendly. Another 30 percent of the cost of these buses will be reimbursed by Volkswagen settlement money within the next two years. The buses - 6 full-size clean diesel transit buses (flat-nosed), 4 full-size clean diesel conventional buses (with hood), and 3 smaller propane buses - will be purchased this summer, in time for the start of the 2019-20 school year. We will continue to apply for EPA rebates to help us fund the replacement of the remainder of our bus fleet over the coming years.
