Program Review for Learners who are Struggling
January 14, 2019 - Starting in January 2019, the Hillsboro School District will undertake a 9-month project to expand and strengthen best-practice supports for students struggling within our schools, including but not limited to students with special needs and students who are English learners.
While we are proud of the quality of services provided to students with disabilities and to students who are English learners, and of the hard work of our staff who help all students achieve at high levels, ever-higher expectations require us to look for ways to further increase student learning and improve the way we deliver services to our students. The District has engaged District Management Group (DMGroup), a Boston-based organization, to assist with this project.
This effort will examine our current regular, English learner, and special education programs, procedures, and staffing for serving all struggling students through the use of quantitative (both in-district and benchmark district information) and qualitative (focus groups, stakeholder interviews, and classroom observations) data gathering. Information collected will allow the District to be able to make thoughtful and informed decisions to ensure all of our students receive appropriate supports.
The result should be a better picture of what is working well in the District, a better understanding of what it looks like to provide equitable levels of staffing and services, overall improved delivery of services to students with disabilities and students who are English learners - as well as their families - and better utilization of District resources.
We are excited to undertake this partnership and appreciate your support in this process. We will be sure to keep you updated as we achieve key milestones.
