Featured Collaboration: Hillsboro Optimists, The Salvation Army, and Century Students
January 11, 2021 - Century High School students partnered with The Salvation Army and the Hillsboro Optimist Club to pull off a double whammy in fundraising in December. Twenty students took shifts ringing bells on Dec. 19 and 23 and raised over $6,500 for The Salvation Army. For their efforts, they were rewarded with $800 for their school-based food pantry from the HOC.
It was a three-way partnership the HOC hopes to forge with other youth groups and organizations in the future. Wayne Bohm, HOC member and Century teacher, and his students are usually busy with the Elk's canned food drive in December, but that was cancelled due to COVID. In collaboration with Tami Mandrell and Lisa Cole at The Salvation Army, they found a great way to give back to their community.
